5 Hot Hair Style Trends For 2005

Folks are so diverse in 2005, which means that there's never just one hair style trend that's hot at any given time. All of history is fair game for re-invention. Truly, there's not much that hasn't been done before. Yet somehow, each incarnation takes on a fresh spin, and emerges fabulous.

The latest hair style trends sweep the globe slowly, which means that the life cycle is actually a few years from the birth of a new trend to the eventual fizzle. And then there are those we can't ever seem to eradicate completely (terrible 80's bangs), but that's another article, another time.

Today's hair trends can be broken down into five general categories. Here's a rundown of each...

Old Hollywood Glamour - The vintage Hollywood glamour look is characterized by smooth, voluptuous waves, and deep side parts. The best techniques to get the look are pin curling and finger waving. Top it off with a beautiful vintage accessory on one side or at the back. Look for items with rhinestones or feathers, especially ostrich feathers...we'll be seeing alot of those.

80's Inspired - A return to the 80's means an influence from that time...texture and movement, shorter layers throughout the top, lots of waves and tousled curls. It does not mean that if you're still sporting a tired old eighties mullet, you're suddenly back en vogue.

The New Mod - Think "super-fly Beatle". The re-born version of the classic 50's-60's mod style has shorter lengths and texture in the crown, which become heavy, almost blunt bangs that skim the eyelashes. Annoying, I know, but hey...what's a little discomfort in the name of fashion? The back and sides of the new mod style can range from short to medium with either lots of texture or distinct bluntness around the hairline.

Disconnected and Asymmetric Cuts - Extreme angles create a sculptural feel with this hair trend. Blunt edges cut in unexpected places. No blendy-blend here. This trend is very edgy, but can be tamed down by going with an asymmetric cut (one side longer than the other). The angle of the cut can range from a gentle slope to a plummet, with one side very short, graduating to chin-length as it comes around the head.

Very short haired folks can also take advantage of this trend. Carve fun patterns into the sides of the hair. Or go more extreme with a version like I recently saw Ed Robertson from the Barenaked Ladies sporting. Part shaved, part everyday guys short haircut. It looked to me like he had to bolt from the barber's chair halfway through his buzz, but it's all in the eye of the beholder, I suppose.

Mohawks and Faux-Hawks - A hot trend for both guys and gals, the mohawk will be settlin' in for a good spell. This look is immensely versatile, possible to mimic on any hair length. If your hair is short, use a wax or gel and simply direct it forward and up in the center. For a temporary mohawk on longer lengths, back comb a rectangular section from your front hairline to your crown. Slick the sides down close to your head, either behind the ears or secure these sections straight back and underneath the back sections. Instant faux-hawk...hair today...gone tomorrow!

A tad more commitment is required to achieve an authentic mohawk look. You'll need to have your stylist trim up the sides and back/sides, leaving a "peak" of length down the center of the head (obviously), otherwise, it'll be difficult to create the classic mohawk shape.

Make a trend your own by incorporating elements from one or two of the above influences. Keep your hair type, face shape, and lifestyle in mind when choosing a new hair style. Just because a mohawk is in style doesn't mean you're an automatic candidate to sport one. If you have a long or diamond shaped face, a full-on mohawk would be a disaster. (Unless you're going for the "pointy head" look, which is doubtful.)

If you like to experiment, stick with the trends that don't require alot of commitment with the haircut. The Hollywood Glamour look, the faux-hawk, and the new mod are good options for this because they can easily be changed the next day.

Hair style trends are forever shifting, morphing into new versions of themselves, then dying out entirely...well, at least for the next few decades, 'til they emerge once again and sweep the planet. Now that you're feeling inspired, let me leave you with this...Have fun with your hair! After all, you'll be dealing with it on a daily basis for the rest of your life...What better reason to spice it up a little?!

How Can I Get the Best Cosmetics?

Not every woman wears makeup on a regular basis, but most of them at least want to do so on special occasions. Unfortunately, it can be hard to find the right cosmetics because there are so many choices. They all claim to do something different or offer more than others, but ultimately they really are all about the same. There are some differences, though, with items like mineral makeup or makeup that's basically airbrushed onto the face. In order to determine whether you want a liquid makeup, a powder, mineral makeup, or something else it's important to know a few things about yourself. First, you should know your skin type. Is it oily? Is it dry and flaky? Knowing what type of skin you have - and some people have a combination based on different parts of their face being different in how much oil they produce - can really help when choosing cosmetics.

People with oily skin will want to look for makeup designed for them. People with dry skin will be more interested in makeup that has more of a moisturizer. If your skin is flaky your makeup will be, too, and that can look very unattractive. You also have to consider when and how often you'll be wearing your cosmetics. If you work in a job where you frequently sweat and/or you'll be wearing makeup every day, all the time, you might want to go with a lighter option. Heavy liquid makeups - and even some powders - will run and look very bad when they get wet from sweat. They can also feel very heavy on the face and make you uncomfortable. They soak into fine lines and wrinkles and make them look more prominent, too, which is something that most women try very hard to avoid. There are a lot of cosmetics out there that say they can stop these kinds of problems, but you have to do some research to decide which claims are real and which one will work the best for you. They don't all react the same on all women.

The mineral makeups are generally the lightest-feeling on the face, and many of them don't move around and run when they are wet. They can make lines look more obvious if they get caked-on, though, and they can also be a little difficult to match to skin tone for some women. However, there is the obvious advantage of not having to spread a heavy, liquid makeup all over your face. That can be seen as a big bonus for a lot of women who want a lighter look. The mineral makeup also goes on very quickly; another advantage for women who are in a hurry and who want to look their best without putting a lot of time and effort into it. While mineral makeup is very popular today and seems to work very well, only you can decide which cosmetics are best for you. Much of that will come through trial and error and experimentation, as well as solid research into the topic.

More Adults Are Playing Xbox 360, Playstation 3 And Wii Video Games

Do you think that most video game players are kids sitting bleary eyed in front of television sets with fingers and thumbs tapping away in a staccato like manner on the control buttons of a remote control or keyboard? Well, there are plenty of those kinds of kids for sure, but they are not the most prevalent number in the demographics of video game players. That would be the grown ups, or people over the age of 18 to be more specific.

The Entertainment Software Association, a top demographics and research company did a survey recently and found that adults make up 92 percent of the people who purchase video games these days and 80 percent who purchase video game consoles.

The average age of video game players is now up to 33, and getting higher every year it seems. This recent survey found that 67 percent of the Heads of Households play video games as a form of recreation, according to the Entertainment Software Association, or ESA. The average age of the most frequent video game buyers is 38 years old.

The evidence of how old video game players have become was quite evident recently when the release of Halo 3 was getting a lot of media attention. Every news story showed footage of die-hard Halo 3 fans waiting in line for the release of this latest Halo video game. Most of these fans were adults who have followed the Halo video game franchise for many years. Many television reporters showed up at these events and when they conducted interviews you could see that the zeal and fanaticism of these fans was second to none. Some even had costumes that would have made any serious Star Trek or Star Wars fan quite jealous.

There are a lot of parents playing video games these days. Even more interesting is the fact that 80 percent of parents who play video games said they play them with their children, and that this experience has brought them much closer together as a family. In the early days of the video games parents often dismissed them as nothing more than a diversion. The parents of today recognize the value of playing video games.

The grown ups of today are the first generation to be raised on video games. They were the first kids to play Tron, Pong, and Donkey Kong and they have never lost their interest in this kind of activity. They have matured along with video games, made them part of their everyday lives and used them as an escape from reality.

Some of the video games that are currently on the market are quite amazing in their technical and creative achievements. Corporations like Microsoft spend millions of dollars to create games like Halo 3 which offer an experience that is much more than a game. First person shooter video games like Halo 3 and Far Cry by Ubisoft put the players in the game and provide them with choices that determine the outcome. A person can play alone on their PC or with many other people online.

There are now games that offer the sense of touch through the use of special hardware that can be purchased. The hardware involves attaching sensors and transmitters to your skin. The result is a virtual experience that is so realistic you can literally feel it. This kind of interaction can be far more rewarding than simply watching a movie or listening to music. The adult entertainment industry sees the obvious value of this technology and they have seized upon the opportunity with great interest.

Video game developers have known for years that adults are their main customers. They are designing more and more games these days like Grand Theft Auto, San Andreas that are strictly for players over the age of eighteen.

More and more middle aged adults are playing video games these days. Back in 1999 only 9 percent of people over the age of 50 played video games. Now, in 2007 that number has increased to 24 percent.

The video game industry generates 80 billion dollars worldwide annually. Most of that money is made from the sales of video games and Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and Nintendo Wii video game consoles that are purchased by adults for themselves. That is, after they have purchased one for their kids, of course.

A Homemade Windmill is a Great Option For Any Home Or Business - Read Why

A homemade windmill is an awesome option for any home or business. There are many reasons for this, and I want to explore several of them in this article.

The first reason why a homemade windmill is such a great option is because of how much it can help the environment. The power companies often give out harmful gasses into our atmosphere which can cause our planet a lot of problems. When you are using your own home windmill, you eliminate this by using clean energy that does absolutely no harm.

One more reason is because of the savings that a windmill can create for your family or business. Just imagine how much money you could save by eliminating 70% or more of your energy bill each month. This is a simple change that can have drastic results. In most cases, people will save a very large percentage of their bill. It is often true that some home and business owners will totally eliminate their need for the power company's help.

The last thing I want to mention is that a homemade windmill creates energy that is renewable. That means that the ability to make wind power is always going to be available. It cannot run out like any type of fossil fuel and will always be readily available. This means that any worry you ever had about not having electricity will be long gone.

I hope that this article has let you know a few interesting things about homemade windmills. If you make the choice to change to wind power, it will be one of the best decisions you have ever made. The transition is easy and does not take much work at all. In fact, millions of people have already done this and seen amazing results.

Interested in the idea of making your own electricity very easily?

Badminton Racket Reviews

If your looking to buy a new badminton racket, chances are your going to look for some sort of review of it. There are hundreds of these reviews on the internet, and the best to look are the forums. This is all well and good, but you need to view these with a little caution.

The problem with online badminton racket reviews is that they are all personal. One size does not fit all. Every badminton player is different, with different style, technique and ability. Here is where the problem lies. If one person says that a badminton racket gives them more power, or control, how do you know it will do the same for you?

You don't. What you need to do is know your own game inside out. Only by knowing yourself will you be able to tell if a racket is going to suit your game.

Let me give you an example. The most expensive badminton rackets are designed for control, they predominantly have very stiff flexibility, which means you have to generate the power with your technique. These kinds of racquet are for advanced players, the manufacturer assumes you are good enough to use them, and you have to be, or else your game will probably get worse with these advanced rackets.

Now if you are a beginner or a novice player, reading an advanced players' review of these badminton rackets will not be much use to you. Many of the reviews are based on the top end models because people have spent a lot of money on them, and they want to tell the world all about them.

There are also other factors to consider, the most important being the string tension used in the review. Strings change the behaviour of rackets, period. Make sure the reviewer states the string tension used, this will give you more of an idea if it relates to your own game. If you don't know the importance of stringing tension, then just reading the review will be of little use to you. As i said before, you need to know your own game and ability beforehand.

This may sound a little negative, but take badminton racket reviews with a pinch of salt, they can only ever be a rough guide to you.

Find out all you need to know about badminton rackets at the badminton racket blog

Discount Perfume and Cologne

Perfumes and fragrances are one of the most difficult accessories to define and to pin down - the reason being that they are such a personal choice and have so many elusive qualities Even though perfume and fragrances are expensive (for both men and women), they are well worth the money, as they can conjure up a host of feelings, and be a pleasant experience for both the wearer thereof, as well as the people close to the person wearing the fragrance.

Frequently asked questions about perfumes and fragrances

What is the difference between cologne, eau de toilette, parfum, etc...?

Simple. The concentrations are different. Eau de cologne is the least concentrated form of a fragrance, then comes the eau de toilette, followed by the eau de parfum, and finally the most concentrated, the parfum.

What is a "nose"?

A nose is a person who creates fragrances. There was a time when the job of perfume-maker was handed down from father to son but times have changed and now there are several schools dedicated to the science of perfume-making. At this time only three major French perfume-makers (Chanel, Guerlain, and Jean Patou) have their own in-house blender. Underneath a "nose" at work at the perfume organ.

Is it true that fragrances change scent on different people?

Yes. Each of us has our own unique body chemistry based on our genes, skin type, hair color, and even the type of lifestyle we lead and the environment in which we live in. So it is important not to purchase a fragrance because you smelled it in a magazine ad or on someone else. Try it on your own skin to see how it reacts with your own body chemistry.

As one gets older does the sense of smell diminish?

Yes. As we age our sense of smell slowly begins to diminish. As a result some older individuals apply more fragrance than needed.

How long will a fragrance last on me?

Fragrances are designed to last about 4 hours or so. Some people may notice that a particular fragrance lasts all day but by then it will not smell as it's supposed to. You must reapply once or twice a day.

Do I apply fragrance all over the body?

Yes. If a fragrance is only applied to the neck or behind the ears the fragrance will rise and disappear. It is important to apply a fragrance all over the body to ensure the scent lasts.

How does skin type play a role?

Oily skin holds scents much more than dry skin. So those with dry skin need to reapply more often.
Is it important to change fragrances according to the different seasons of the year?

Yes, since heat increases the intensity of a fragrance. There are certain fragrances that are more appropriate for summer and other stronger scents that would be better for winter use. A good guideline to follow is to wear lighter scents in the summer and stronger in the winter. Citrus scents are perfect for summer while orientals are better for winter.

How does the color of your hair make a difference?

Yes. Blondes with a fair skin will be happiest with long-lasting multi-floral creations. Their skin is often dry causing fragrances that are too subtle to evaporate rapidly. Brunettes usually have medium-to-dark skin which contains natural oils, allowing scents to last longer. Dramatic Orientals are often favorites. Redheads have extremely fair and delicate skin which may be incompatible with fragrances which have predominant green notes.

How long can I keep my fragrance stored?

Fragrances don't last forever. There are certain precautions though that will ensure the quality of the fragrance. Keep the bottle in a dry, dark place. Heat can also destroy a fragrance so keep it from extreme temperatures. Colognes and eau de toilettes (not parfum) may be kept in the refrigerator in order to maintain their freshness. Fragrances usually last 3 years from the date they were manufactured, not the day you buy it. Certain clearance centers which I won't name but everyone knows who they are carry bottles that are at least 2 or 3 years old. Buy from department stores and reputable perfumeries to ensure the quality of the fragrance.

History of fragrances and perfume Discount Perfume was first used by the Egyptians as part of their religious rituals. The two principal methods of use at this time were the burning of incense and the application of balms and ointments. Perfumed oils were applied to the skin for either cosmetic or medicinal purposes.

During the Old and Middle Kingdoms, perfumes were reserved exclusively for religious rituals such as cleansing ceremonies. Then during the New Kingdom (1580-1085 BC) they were used during festivals and Egyptian women also used perfumed creams and oils as toiletries and cosmetics and as preludes to lovemaking.

The use of perfume then spread to Greece, Rome, and the Islamic world. And it was the Islamic community that kept the use of perfumes since the spread of Christianity led to a decline in the use of perfume. With the fall of the Roman Empire, perfume's influence dwindled. It was not until the twelfth century and the development of international trade that this decline was reversed.

Perfume enjoyed huge success during the seventeenth century. Perfumed gloves became popular in France and in 1656, the guild of glove and perfume-makers was established. The use of perfume in France grew steadily. The court of Louis XV was even named "the perfumed court" due to the scents, which were applied daily not only to the skin but also to clothing, fans and furniture.

The eighteenth century saw a revolutionary advance in perfumery with the invention of eau de Cologne. This refreshing blend of rosemary, neroli, bergamot and lemon was used in a multitude of different ways: diluted in bath water, mixed with wine, eaten on a sugar lump, as a mouthwash, an enema or an ingredient for a poultice, injected directly... and so on. The variety of eighteenth-century perfume containers was as wide as that of the fragrances and their uses.

Sponges soaked in scented vinaigres de toilette were kept in gilded metal vinaigrettes. Liquid discount perfume came in beautiful Louis XIV-style pear-shaped bottles. Glass became increasingly popular, particularly in France with the opening of the Baccarat factory in 1765.

As with industry and the arts, perfume was to undergo profound change in the nineteenth century. Changing tastes and the development of modern chemistry laid the foundations of perfumery, as we know it today. Alchemy gave way to chemistry and new fragrances were created.

The French Revolution had in no way diminished the taste for perfume, there was even a fragrance called "Parfum a la Guillotine." Under the post-revolutionary government, people again dared to express a penchant for luxury goods, including perfume. A profusion of vanity boxes containing perfumes appeared in the 19th century.

Due to its jasmine, rose and orange-growing trades, the town of Grasse in Provence established itself as the largest production center for raw materials. The statutes of the perfume-makers of Grasse were passed in 1724.

Paris became the commercial counterpart to Grasse and the world center of perfume. Perfume houses such as Houbigant (produces Quelques Fleurs, still very popular today), Lubin, Roger & Gallet, and Guerlain were all based in Paris.

Soon bottling became more important. Perfume maker Francois Coty formed a partnershipwith Rene Lalique. Lalique then produced bottles for Guerlain, D'Orsay, Lubin, Molinard, Roger & Gallet and others. Baccarat then joined in, producing the bottle for Mitsouko (Guerlain), Shalimar (Guerlain) and others. Brosse glassworks created the memorable bottle for Jeanne Lanvin's Arpege, and the famous Chanel No.5.

1921- Couturier Gabrielle Chanel launches her own brand of perfume, created by Ernest Beaux; she calls it Chanel No.5 because it was the fifth in a line of fragrances Ernest Beaux presented her. Ernest Beaux was the first to use aldehydes in perfumery. In fact, Chanel No.5 was the first completely synthetic mass-market fragrance.

The 1930's saw the arrival of the leather family of fragrances, and florals also became quite popular with the emergence of Worth's Je Reviens (1932), Caron's Fleurs de Rocaille (1933) and Jean Patou's Joy (1935). With French perfumery at it's peak in the 1950's, other designers such as Christian Dior, Jacques Fath, Nina Ricci, Pierre Balmain.. and so on, started creating their own scents.

Hair Care Products - Qualities of Items That You Should Be Looking For Prior to Making a Purchase

Your hair is your crown. Whether you tie it up or let it loose, it can be very noticeable. It helps give shape to your face and it can compliment your outfit for the day. It is one of the main factors for beauty. No wonder why many people exert much effort in caring for it, as well as investing money to buy products related for its care.

Hair care should be done not only for the reason of looking good at all times. No matter what it is (long or short strands and fine or coarse), you need to take care of it because they have important physiologic functions to perform for our body. Here are some of the functions of your hair:

It prevents and regulates heat loss on the body.
It is an additional protection of your skin that filters dust and preventing them from entering your pores.
It also provides additional warmth to your head and body. Imagine your head totally shaved, it can get very cold especially when room temperature is very low.
It is also an extension of your senses. It may not have sensory fibers on it but anything that causes it to move radiates it to your hair follicle, making you sense any kind of movement towards your body.

Since they also have important roles, you should think of ways to care for it. One is to use hair care products that you can use while maintaining them everyday. If you want to look for some of it, here are some of the qualities that you should be looking for:

These substances should be able to moisturize them. You daily activities can cause deprivation of moisture on your hair. They are very much needed for people with dry or long hair that could possibly result to deprivation of moisture until to the tips.

You can also opt for those natural remedies by looking for items with oil extracts from plants. Aside from the fact that they are naturally moisturizing agents, they can also possess anti-bacterial or anti-fungal properties. Having them around prevents infection of your scalp or even irritations that can cause discomfort.

Look for products that can help you protect them from being destroyed by the Ultra Violet rays as they can cause dryness. They should also possess the ability to make your hair look healthy and shinier so that you can be proud to let it loose no matter what the weather condition will be.

Find hair care products that can help you maintain the natural form of your hair. It should preserve its natural style and should not cause to make it look dull at all. You also have to ensure that it can remove the static on your hair to prevent having that frizzy look.
